Works to upgrade the crossing facilities and replace traffic signal equipment at the Nottingham Road / Valley Road junction in Old Basford, as part of the Nottingham Ring Road Improvement Scheme, were substantially completed in August 2014.
Final resurfacing works are now planned to take place at this location over two consecutive weekends in November (8 and 9 and 15 and 16 November, 8am -11pm on Saturdays and 9am – 11pm on Sundays).
This means that there will be no access to or from the Ring Road at its junction with Nottingham Road. Alternative routes will be via Vernon Road, Radford Road and Wilkinson Street for traffic travelling from Bulwell / Old Basford and North Gate and Radford Road for traffic travelling from New Basford.
There will be some temporary lane restrictions in place on the Ring Road, controlled by Stop / Go signs, while the works take place.
Motorists and other road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or to follow an alternative route where possible.
Councillor Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Planning and Transport at Nottingham City Council, said: “The Valley Road / Nottingham Road junction is a key route into and out of the city, which we have been improving to make less intimidating for pedestrians and cyclists. We know that this is a very busy junction and have planned the works to take place off-peak over two weekends intentionally to minimise any disruption for those wishing to enter or leave Nottingham Road. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.”
The traffic signals at the Nottingham Road junction will need to be switched off during both weekend works and the crossing facilities will not be in use. Alternative crossings at Radford Road, Scotland Road and Silverdale Road can be used.
Bus services 68 / 69 / N68 / 70 / 71 and Local Link L12 will be affected by the above restrictions on the dates above.
Outbound bus routes that normally cross the Ring Road using Nottingham Road will be diverted along North Gate and Radford Road (and vice-versa for inbound routes).
Service L12 outbound will operate via the normal route as far as Hucknall Road, terminating at bus stop SH47 (just before the Valley Road roundabout). The inbound route (towards The University of Nottingham) will turn around at the Hucknall Road roundabout then travel along Hucknall Road, turn then use Perry Road and Nottingham Road to its normal route at Sherwood Rise.
Nottingham Road bus stops BA82 (opposite Fox Grove), BA26 and BA35 (near to Perry Road) will not be in use for the duration of the works. Users of bus stop BA82 should use BA05 located on Vernon Road outside of Kia Motors instead.
