The Eco Expressway will connect Gedling in the East to the new Boots Enterprise Zone in the West
The City Council is providing new electric buses (at a cost of £3.5m) as part of this scheme which will run on the Eco Link park and ride services from January 2017. The funding for the physical improvement measures (including bus lanes, improved bus stops and pedestrian crossing points) will come from the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire (D2N2) Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). Approval for the scheme was granted by the LEP in July 2016.

Works will be delivered through phases:
Phase 1 focusses on the Daleside Road corridor (Manvers Street to Vale Road) where construction began in October 2016. On Daleside Road, 5km of new priority bus lanes will be created which will also be open to use by Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs). These are any vehicle whose CO2 tailpipe emissions are less than 75 grams per km. Another major part of the scheme is that new bus stops will be provided on Daleside Road near the Racecourse Park and Ride, with a connecting pedestrian link to the car park site. These stops will serve the Racecourse Park and Ride site and buses will no longer lose time driving into and out of the site. Overall it is hoped that bus journey times along the corridor will reduce by up to 3 minutes and reliability will be vastly improved.
Improvements and enhancements to the cycle infrastructure will also be undertaken along Daleside Road at the same time. These will be funded from the Cycle Ambition funding which has been separately allocated via the Local Enterprise Partnership. Phase 2 will consist of developing a bus lane on Vale Road (not open to ULEVs), new parking restrictions, bus stop improvements and bus priority at signal controlled junctions in the Netherfield area.
Phase 3 will include physical measures to the west of the City including proposed extensions to bus lanes along Queens Drive and Thane Road and new routing options for the Eastern Section including a proposal to run buses through the Island development site.
The current Citylink 2 service which connects the City Centre to the Racecourse Park and Ride and to the Netherfield Retail Park will be rebranded as EcoLink in January 2017. The route will use new electric buses which offer a quiet and comfortable ride in addition to having zero tailpipe emissions.
The Eco Expressway and Cycle City Ambition programmes are working together to deliver improvements for cyclists and bus users on the eastern route out of the city.
